Yes... we are ENGAGED.

This past week has been one of the craziest of my life.  No joke.  There have been a lot of changes, some good, and some bad.  Some were quick, others have been more gradual.
A week ago, I went and visited my great-aunt Shirley in the care center for the last time.  (I know what you're thinking.. great-aunt??  She has been like a second grandma to me).  I had been visiting her for the past two weeks straight, as her health quickly declined.  On Sunday she seemed much worse.  I said good-bye to her, and told her I'd see her tomorrow.  That night, she passed away.  This whole week has been filled with funeral-planning, obituary-writing, and each of us trying to come to terms with our loss in our own way.  I feel most sorry for my Grandma, who lived with Shirley for years.  Thursday was the viewing, and Friday was the graveside service.  It was all done very well, but death is hard.
Work has been crazy too.  I have been training a new peak time, and training is kind of tiring!  But I love the people I work with.
I have been working out at the gym.  This is a new concept for me.  Speaking of which, I worked out with a personal trainer for an hour yesterday.  I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO SORE IN MY LIFE.
And now, for the part you've all been waiting for.... Cord and I are officially engaged.  Here is the full story.

So... for the record, I had some idea that is was going to happen this day, but NO IDEA while it was happening.  May 25, 2011...
I got off work early that day, because "it was a slow day".  Cord was going to take me on a day trip, to get my mind off everything that was going on with the funeral and stuff.  So he picked me up at 2:30, and said we might go to Park City to walk around, but first he had to stop at his AFB  to drop off some paperwork.  So we drive into the base... they check his ID card... then we get waved over to a garage/shed thing.  Apparently we have to get a "random vehicle check."  So they tell us to open all the doors, the gas tank, the trunk, the hood... everything.  And then we have to get out of the car and walk ten feet in front and wait til the inspection is done.  Partway through they call Cord over, and they're holding up this black briefcase and going on about how it's government property.  I start panicking just a little.
So we have to follow two guys over to another building, and in the car I ask Cord what the heck the briefcase is and why he has it.  He tells me it's a laptop that he's holding onto for a guy in his unit, and it shouldn't be too big of a deal.
We get escorted into the building and they have us sit down and they start asking Cord questions, like why he has the laptop and where he got it.  They also check the serial number on the laptop and sure enough, it's one of their "stolen laptops". Next thing I know, they're putting handcuffs on Cord and taking me to another room for "questioning".  Now I'm really freaking out.
So they sit me down and tell me they have to record the interview for court purposes.  One of the guys starts asking me questions, like how I know Cord, and if I think he'd ever do something like this.  Finally this guy leaves, and in comes another guy.  This second guy is the real deal.  He comes right over to me and starts telling me how serious this situation is, and asking me what I know about the laptop.  I say nothing, of course, and he says, "That's not what Airman Bailey is telling us."  This REALLY freaks me out.  How could Cord blame it on me?  So  he starts throwing phrases around like extortion and the Patriot Act.  Finally I start getting mad, asking why I would care about some dumb government laptop blah blah blah.  Then he leaves to bring in Cord.
In the hall I can hear people on phones, calling for airport security, and the Salt Lake PD.  They bring Cord in, still hand-cuffed, and sit him down across the room.  The guy asks us to tell the truth, and admit which one of us is responsible for the stolen laptop.  Finally, Cord says it's all his fault, and to leave me out of it.  He looked SO guilty.   At this point I'm freaking out, because I just learned my boyfriend is a criminal and a liar.  So I start getting mad at him, and crying.  I'm asking him how he could do something like this, etc.  He keeps telling me to calm down, and asks one of the guys if he can come over to me.  They say yes, and he walks over to a chair right in front of me.  He starts saying cute things, like how we're going to be together forever and how much he loves me, but I'm not even listening because I'm so upset.  Finally, he asks if I'll just do him one favor.  I say, "What!"  And he kneels and says "Will you marry me?"
The first thing said is "You're such a jerk!"  But then I said yes.  :)

He took me to dinner in Salt Lake after, to a place called The Copper Onion.  (Amazing).
